Today, E1t1 Farms / Throw to Grow is very proud to bring you the official release of our latest creative film project with leading action sports brands Volcom and green event solutions company, Tr3ees.
“Volcom Pipe Pro 2013: Sustainable by Design”, filmed and directed by Nathan Peracciny looks at all that goes into launching a sustainable surf contest on the iconic North Shore of O’ahu. In the film, we look at everything from sourcing locally-grown foods, the bio-diesel powering the webcast to the Bokashi System composting food scraps. The film contains insightful interviews uncovering the passion that’s behind creating an event that does more than just get the adrenaline pumping.
A big thank you to Volcom / Volcom New Future and Tr3ees for giving us the opportunity to tell this story. Volcom have proven to be industry leaders in reducing their environmental impacts and benefiting the local communities that they come into contact with.
Also, a big mahalo to all the folks that helped make this film happen!
“Be conscious of what you eat.”
First and foremost, Eddie Huang is a real deal Chinese New Yorker. He’s also a chef, writer and owner of a little hot spot in the Lower East Side of NYC called Baohaus. They serve up these really tasty puffy Chinese taco things. That’s the best I can do to explain it, but they’re scrumpilicious!
Eddie just launched his Fresh Off The Boat video series. In this first ep. he takes a trip to East Oakland and learns a valuable lesson about how meat gets to our plates.
First he goes huntin’ wabbit with the president of The East Bay Rats Motorcyle Club–shot gun in hand. When that doesn’t work they take a bunny the bikers are raising, slit it’s throat then batter and fry it.
Also, check him out in this episode of Vice TV where they tour the tastiest Chinese restaurants in NYC.
PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE AND SPREAD IT EVERYWHERE! My friend Kevin from Hawai’i GMO Justice produced this film. It’s extremely important that we get this information out there.

For over 20 years, Hawai’i has been the global center for the open-field testing of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), including pharmaceutical crops. Over 5,000 experimental tests have been conducted by Monsanto, Dow, Dupont/Pioneer, Syngenta and BASF that spray chemicals on an almost daily basis on our most valuable lands. They are supported by tax-breaks, and beneficial relationships with landowners, regulators and politicians. We estimate GMO companies own or lease 40,000 — 60,000 acres that are sprayed with over 70 different chemicals.
A new vision for Hawai’i would promote small farms that grow chemical-free produce, Continue reading
E1T1 Farms and our Throw To Grow project are all about the belief that small lifestyle changes can and will have a big impact. Our approach to TTG media is no different.
Throughout the month of October, my good friend / talented film director Nathan Peracciny and I interviewed and documented 14 extraordinary individuals that are leading the sustainability and food movements in Hawaii. These people are being the change they want to see and activating others to make not only Hawaii, but also the world a better place. We thought it was important to tell their stories, and are humbled to have the opportunity to do so.
Over the next few weeks Throw To Grow will be releasing their episodes.
In the first installment of the TTG’s Profile series, we introduce you to Daniel Anthony, co-founder of Mana Ai. Daniel hand-pounds Kalo (Taro) with pre-contact, traditional Hawai’ian practices to make pa‘i ‘ai (pounded taro with water not yet added) and poi (pounded taro with water added). Mana Ai uses education, art, and food to sustain and share Hawai’ian culture. Check out: ManaAi.com .
I could write more about how amazing, passionate, and badass Daniel is, but I would rather let the video speak for itself. WATCH IT HERE.
‘Michael Hart, a conventional livestock family farmer, has been farming in Cornwall for nearly thirty years and has actively campaigned on behalf of family farmers for over fifteen years, travelling extensively in Europe, India, Canada and the USA.
In this short documentary he investigates the reality of farming genetically modified crops in the USA ten years after their introduction. He travels across the US interviewing farmers and other specialists about their experiences of growing GM.’
A few weeks ago, I was a guest on a show called Hub Talk which is aired on Olelo channel here in Hawaii and hosted by Amy Brinker. The show has a talk-story format with guests and covers a variety of sustainability and environmental topics, especially those effecting Hawaii. We had such a rad time filming the show.

errr, more like Free Movie Tuesday. LOL. I’m late a day. Anyhow, the subject of GMOs is something near and dear to us here in Hawaii. As many don’t know Hawaii is one of the largest open field testing facilities for GMO crops. The three largest bio-tech companies, Monsanto, Syngenta, Pioneer, have all made Hawaii home (specifically Oahu). GMO’s are NOT good. GMO foods are literally killing us slowly. Please take the time to educate yourself an understand why they need to go…get the booot! Europe did it and banned GMOs…so should we!
This movie is actually a video of a presentation given by Jeffrey M. Smith, who wrote one of the most prominent books on GMOs called “Seeds of Deception“.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in your food may make you sick. Studies link GMOs with toxins, allergies, infertility, infant mortality, immune dysfunction, stunted growth, accelerated aging, and death. Whistleblowers were fired, threatened, and gagged. Warnings by FDA scientists were ignored. Expert Jeffrey M. Smith, author of the #1 GMO bestseller Seeds of Deception, and Genetic Roulette, presents SHOCKING evidence why these gene-spliced crops may lead to health and environmental catastrophes. Learn how to protect yourself and discover the Campaign for Healthier Eating in America—a brilliant plan to quickly end the genetic engineering of our food supply.
